Teacher’s Assistant

General Position Description
The Teacher Assistant supports the Teachers and the Director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Assisting the staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents, the Teacher Assistant observes and documents children’s interest and progress, and relays that information back to parents and staff. Teacher Assistants are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children’s interests and needs under the direction of the Teacher and the Director. .

This Position Reports to Teacher Key Responsibilities

-Supervise children at all times by sight and sound.

-Develop a warm and nurturing relationship with all children and parents.

-Observe children closely enough to be aware of any changes in behavior and health.

-Understand and use positive behavior techniques that help each child to develop the ability to be self-disciplined.

-Enforce all safety rules of the program according to the policy manual; understand and implement, as needed, emergency procedures for fire, storm, medical, first aid, CPR, etc.)

-Promote good hygiene through appropriate hand washing, diapering and sanitation techniques according to the policy manual.

-Operate the classroom in compliance with all child care licensing standards and those of our accrediting agency.

-Assist the classroom teacher in implementing the activities of the weekly lesson plan.

-Assist the classroom teacher in promoting language development through storytelling, music, conversation, book reading and pretend play.

-Assist the classroom teacher in organizing a classroom arrangement that is conducive to appropriate behavior and learning for the age of the group.

-Assist the classroom teacher in providing a calm, pleasant, interactive experience for the children during all meals.

-Assist the classroom teacher in providing regular, on-going, positive communication with parents on a regular basis, according to the expectations for the age-group. This includes, but is not limited to, daily or weekly written and verbal reports.

-Be available for parent-teacher conferences, as needed.

-Assist the classroom teacher in developing and maintaining accurate, detailed and neat records of accidents, illnesses, incidents, medication, attendance, observations, assessments, conferences or any other records requested by the program.

-Maintain a clean, safe, healthy and attractive classroom environment according to the standards set forth in the policy manual. Quickly wipes up spills to avoid accidents.

-Attend staff meetings, parent events and in-house trainings both during and after regular program hours as required for this position.

-Attend and complete all Licensing training requirements within the time frame set forth by the State.

-Attend additional workshops, training and continuing education classes as determined in the individualized training plan.

Be familiar with and adhere to all policies set forth in the Parent Handbook, the Staff Handbook and the Policy Manual.

●Assist in the implementation of curricula activities and encourage participation by children.

●Actively engage in activities; manage cleanliness, order, and availability of classroom materials.

●Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions and progress reports.

●Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.

●Help ensure smooth, daily transition from home to child care facility.

●Follow all facility policies and state regulations.

●Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.

●Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

  • ●Minimum of 1-2 years of professional child care experience.

    ●High energy.

    ●Ability to work well with others
    . ●Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.

    ●An understanding of child development.

    ●Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

    ●Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.

    ●Must clear full background check.

    ●Must pass health screening.

    2.Be able to bend, stoop or kneel to achieve children’s eye-level

    3.Be able to sit on the floor and/or child-sized chairs

    4.Be able to spend at least 1 hour at a time outdoors throughout the year

    5.Be able to write notes, newsletter articles using standard English

    6.Perform all activities with children, i.e. jump, dance, walk, run, etc. for extended periods of time.

S/he need to be capable of communicate, concentrate and paintings properly with others in a crew surroundings. Supporting the personnel in enforcing a pleasant instructional application and in developing high-quality relationships with the children and their dad and mom, the trainer Assistant observes and documents kids’s interest and progress, and relays that facts lower back to dad and mom and team of workers. Teacher Assistants are accountable for implementing developmentally suitable sports based on youngsters’s hobbies and needs underneath the path of the teacher and the Director. .
